The covers of the September edition illustrate the watch with perhaps the earliest recorded written provenance. Dating from circa 1620 and predating the balance spring, the watch is signed Edmund Bull and is in remarkably original condition. Also in this issue, David Poole MBE FBHI continues his ‘Let’s make a clock’ series and, when he penned the first of his ‘A Helping Hand for Students’ articles in the January 2008 edition of The Horological Journal, little did he know that the series would run for almost two decades, and reach beyond its centenary. This edition’s installment is number 100 – a remarkable milestone.
