Duration: 5 Days
Location: Upton Hall
Perfectly designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike, this hands-on five-day course will guide you through the essential techniques needed to service a mechanical clock movement with confidence. Whether you’re completely new to clock repair or have a little experience, you’ll learn how to dismantle, clean, repair, and reassemble a clock mechanism under expert guidance.
Through live demonstrations, practical instruction, and open discussions, you’ll gain a solid foundation in horology—developing both understanding and skill. By the end of the week, you’ll not only grasp how clocks work, but also have the confidence to maintain and restore your own timepieces.
Each participant will work on a suitable clock movement matched to their experience level. If you don’t have your own project clock, the BHI has a limited number of suitable clocks available by arrangement. (Please note: clocks for this course should be of English, German, or American manufacture and not quarter-chiming.)
With each student potentially working on a different type of clock, there’s also the opportunity to learn from others in an open, collaborative environment.
