The British Museum is seeking a curator to assist in the curation and specialist conservation of the outstanding collection of clocks, watches and scientific instruments in the horology section of the Department of Britain, Europe & Prehistory. The successful post holder will care for these objects ensuring appropriate storage, documentation and maintenance of the public galleries, supporting access to the collection by running the Horological Students’ Room and assisting with public enquiries.
The successful candidate will be a Graduate or Accredited Member of the British Horological Institute (MBHI or FBHI) or equivalent with proven practical ability in the conservation and care of clocks and watches, with a good general knowledge of the history of horology, as well as some experience in museums, galleries, historic venues or in a public facing situation.
