Museum of Timekeeping – ‘Autumn Time Showcase 2024’

Join the Museum of Timekeeping and the BHI for an exceptional exhibition of horology.

This year’s exhibition has been specially assembled by the Museum, drawing on private collections around the UK to bring you incredible pieces you can’t see anywhere else. Among the many items on display will be a spring-detent chronometer tourbillon pocket watch by George Daniels, a Daniels wristwatch, and a tourbillon with in-carriage remontoire by Derek Pratt.

From 10.30am to 3.30pm, admission is £10 for adults, under 14s and Timekeepers’ Club Members (previously Friends of the Museum) go free; Art Pass Holders pay £5 and BHI members pay just £4

🔧 This week in the workshop at Upton Hall: Making Small ComponentsOur students are developing their practical skills on this four-day course, learning to make and assemble precision components using traditional hand tools and machinery.Working from technical drawings and to tight manufacturing tolerances, they’re gaining valuable experience in machining, shaping, forming and fitting components to create a functional assembly.The course provides a strong technical foundation for clock and watchmaking, supporting Constructing Clock Components (Unit D2) and preparing students for Constructing Clock & Watch Components (Unit D5).Great to see these essential skills in action in our workshop!Interested in developing your own horological skills? 🔎 “I didn’t know you could have a job in this!” ⌚That’s exactly the kind of reaction we love to hear!On 28 September, the BHI attended a Careers Fair at Lincoln University Technical College, introducing students to the fascinating world of horology and the opportunities it offers.Dr Samantha Shave, BHI Education Lead, and Donna Millichamp, Membership and Short Course Administrator, brought along pocket watches, tiny watch movements and hands-on activities to get students curious.From examining movements through a loupe to discovering the many parts that make clocks and watches work, our stand proved incredibly popular with students and staff alike.Many were fascinated to discover that horology could become a career — and that professional training is available right here at the BHI!It was a rewarding day, giving young people a glimpse into a world they may never have considered before.
